I am an award-winning freelance foreign correspondent, producer and commentator, based in Istanbul since February 2026.

I currently hold a regular part-time role as a freelance reporter with The Independent’s Rethinking Global Aid team and my work has been recognised with a Gold award in International Affairs at the MHP 30 Under 30 Journalism Awards, alongside a nomination for Young Journalist of the Year at the Society of Editors’ Media Freedom Awards.

My reporting spans politics, aid, society and culture, alongside conflict and its aftermath. I have reported from refugee camps in Iraq, towns across Syria emerging from decades of authoritarian rule — visiting twice since the fall of the Assad regime and travelling the length of the country — South Sudan near the Sudanese border as war loomed and minefields in Cambodia. Having recently relocated to Istanbul, I am now reporting from Türkiye and the wider region.

Before the move, I spent four years working across London’s national newsrooms, including as a World News Reporter at The Daily Mirror and freelancing with The BBC. Much of that time was spent inside the pace of breaking news — responding live as stories unfolded, switching between platforms and explaining fast-moving events clearly for online audiences.

I have delivered live hits for Monocle and Times Radio, commentated for Sky News and voiced packages for BBC World Service radio, where I also worked as a producer on the launch of The Global Story podcast. While my breaking-news background taught me to think on my feet, my foreign reporting is slower by design, shaped by time on the ground and an interest in people and how global events are lived.

I am HEFAT trained and forever trying — and failing — to learn Arabic.
