I am an award-winning freelance reporter, producer and commentator specialising in foreign news and humanitarian crises.

I go where the story takes me, but my heart is in the Middle East. I’ve reported from refugee camps in Iraq, bombed-out towns in Syria, and minefields in Cambodia.

Based in London, I spend most of my week between shifts on the news desks of The Times, The BBC, and The Independent, while also producing podcasts and radio segments for The BBC World Service.

As a broadcaster, I have done live hits for Monocle, commentated on the day’s news for Sky TV and voiced packages for the World Service.

Previously, I was appointed as one of The Daily Mirror’s first digital World News Reporters during an era of global crisis and conflict, reporting on major international developments including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as it happened, the Syria–Turkey earthquake, Sudan’s civil war and refugee exodus, the Israel-Palestine war and others. I was also selected to mentor graduate trainees and front social media explainers.

I am privileged to tell other people’s stories and have interviewed victims of sexual trafficking, children living under siege, Nobel Peace Prize laureates, genocide survivors, experts in communicable diseases, asylum seekers, and sex workers.

My bylines include The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, Telegraph Global Health, VICE, The New Arab, ELLE Magazine, Stylist Magazine and others.

I am forever trying - and failing - to learn Arabic and I am HEFAT trained.
